Wild Ginger

Ginger

This perennial herb, which enjoys moist, shaded woodlands, produces two hairy, heart-shaped leaves and one flower annually. It was used as a spice by aboriginal peoples, to treat whooping cough and stomach ailments, and to ease childbirth. The herb releases a strong, gingery odour when rubbed.
